PHASE 3 PRESENTATION FEEDBACK REFLECTION

Friday, November 29th

From the feedback we have received today, it seems that everyone likes the idea of having a rhythm game. In particular, everyone who voted on a game voted on the last one, the one we came up with yesterday. We are excited to hear about this, as this is the game we were thinking of taking forward.

We had some suggestions for Game Idea no. 1, and unlike we thought, no one mentioned the fact that showing pollution on screen might be too blunt. For the second game idea presented, the Abseiling game, people seemed quite excited. One person said the mechanic of rhythm doesn't quite fit with the abseiling theme, and it might be true at some level, since we took two topics and put them together, instead of developing from one. I believe the idea has some potential, but we have definitely over complicated it.

People seem to be very excited about the third game idea, which is good, because so are we. We were advised not to complicate it, which I think is vital. We don't want to end up in a situation like the one we did with the abseiling game. I think the game idea is pretty solid, and what is left to be designed is the movement and the music - the biggest part, but the game idea is there. We will need to start working on it now.

Q: Would the game have any way of adjusting the improvised track? What if it's really bad?

A: The players will have freedom to create anything they want, even if it's 'bad'. If they want to improve, they will have to play more and learn the mechanic better.

Q: What if the 'map' is kind of designed like a record. So the circle is small at the start and they even up building on top of the 'level' they have designed. So at the end, the map spins like a record and plays out the track.

A: This is exactly what we are doing. We are glad to see other people agree with our ideas and think they are worth looking into.

Things to look into:

  • AudioSurf

  • Brendan Dawes 3D music objects

  • Brien Eno

Games to research from feedback:

  • Speedrunners

  • Crypt of the NecroDancer

  • Pikuniku

Overall, we got great feedback and a few materials to research further when developing the game. Another very useful Feedback Friday. We are glad to see people like what we came up with and to be given some direction for the next steps.
