GAMBLING RESEARCH: REFLECTION

From the research I did on gambling, there's a few things I was able to take and understand that we could take forward in our game: the prizes are very rewarding, and people in need of the prize are usually desperate.

Gambling can be used as a shortcut to getting rich. Are there such things as shortcuts? Is it fair? Do we want the game to be fair?

People who bet on everything they have - how imbalanced is the chemistry in their brain? We could maybe use this in our game, make the player sacrifice everything they have. Can we make the game like in a movie, where the protagonist makes some choices without the player having a say? That would be frustrating for the player.

The information I found is interesting. What we could take in terms of mechanics would be the sacrifice. Having to give something up for something else. but then we don't want to make a gambling game. I think more inspiration from this topic we could take is in terms of story or narrative. It is powerful to see what people would give up for money. Maybe we could use this as a scale, to show the player what something means to the protagonist. Instead of saying "He loved his child very much", we could make the protagonist gamble with his friends' lives to save his child. We will need to discuss about our findings and see how we can use this in the game.
